OK have a few NI applications, one of which being Pro53, which I bought quite some years ago now, and when I bought it, it was Pro53 but got a free upgrade to Pro53. And everything went fine. I have a few other NI apps and went on the website to get some updates, and amongst them noticed an update for Pro53, so I downloaded it, only to find out it wouldn't run as it needed to be activated.

SO before I can activate it, it requires my serial number which is about 14 characters long but the only serial number I have got is the shorter Pro52 one which it is refusing to accept. During startup it also says my ASIO setup is not configured, so I try to config it and it won't keep the settings. So I decide, well, I can live without the thing so of course will have to try an uninstall and put my older version of Pro53 back on. Bit to add to the grief, so now I start CubaseSX3 and all my settings have vanished!!! I am heartily fed up to the back teeth with this kind of activation procedure, I had a belly full of Gigastudio!!! My Cubase came with a dongle and it works each and every time, no problem whatsoever. I was seriously considering buying Kontackt sampler from NI to replace Gigastudio, but am now seriously considering Mach 5 instead.

NI you have to get this activation sorted out, till you do I am going no where near your products unless absolutely there is no alternative - that's another half a day lost trying to sort software activation. I did not lose any settings in my case, either way, so I was certainly in a better spot than you. I never did the uninstall/reinstall routine however, I just asked for a new number and was done. None of the other NI apps have done this, so I am suspecting that since the Pro53 app is so old, they 'upgraded' the activation scheme to be more in line with their newer products. Pro53 used to ask me to insert the retail CD periodically (as did some of the older apps before I upgraded them such as B4 before I got B4II). This new scheme eliminates that pain in the neck procedure at least. The good news from my perspective is that everything works great, and all I needed was a new activation number.

The lesson here for others that may go through this with the older version of Pro53 is to be patient, and request a new activation number before you upgrade. To be fair, it should also be pointed out that none of the other NI apps that I own do this (that I know of), and it is probably just restricted to older versions of Pro53.
